Andalusian Courtyard in Malibu
Creating a World Apart
This project required a new concept for the usage of what was essentially a small wraparound terrace, which was dark and unappealing.
We began by removing some densely overgrown landscaping and installed shimmering non-fruiting olives, espaliered bouganvillea, and petrea in the planters, with seafoam-green pebbles as mulch. This kept privacy from the street, yet allowed filtered light to animate shadows on the freshly painted white walls.
To furnish the space, we installed a new cobalt-striped upholstered bench and exceptional Moroccan pots planted with citrus, palms, gardenia, scented pelargoniums, and orchid-like epidendrons, creating a place for rest and flowing with visual elegance.
Last but not least, new lighting enhances the entry and leads you around the terrace to a refurbished dining area with a magnificent view of the ocean.
